Welcome to Whispers Through Time. Note that this site in the process of being built. I am adding more everyday so please check back.

This space is dedicated to the lives of real people, my ancestors who lived, worked, raised families, crossed oceans, survived loss, and quietly shaped the world around them. Most of them never made the history books. But they mattered. And their stories deserve to be told.

My research focuses on families with Mi’kmaq, Acadian, Irish, and English roots, primarily in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. On my side, that includes names like Benoit, Lambert, McManus, Noseworthy, Spry, and LeBlanc. I trace lines back to figures like Martin Benoit dit L’arrière, Pierre Benoit, known as the Father or founder of Tracadie, and some Noseworthy nobles from as far back as the 1500s and 1600s.

On my husband’s side, the story branches into Guitard, Mowat, Worrell, Landry, Adams, and Targett, names rooted in New Brunswick and Quebec. His history includes unforgettable figures like Charlotte Taylor, “the Mother of Tabusintac,” and François Guitard, the Old Dragoon.

Some of what guides me in this work goes beyond records and names. I’ve had experiences, subtle, sometimes hard to explain, that feel like more than coincidence. When I was a child, I saw a woman in our apartment, dressed in white, staring with a quiet intensity that stayed with me long after. At the time, I didn’t understand what I’d seen. Years later, I discovered our home stood near the site of a violent raid that happened in 1751. That moment, along with others, has shaped how I approach this work. I don’t lead with the spiritual side, but it’s there, always gently threading itself into the research.

This blog is where I share what I find, part storytelling, part research log, part reflection. Some posts will dive into specific family histories. Others will explore strange records, near-misses, and unexpected breakthroughs. And yes, there will definitely be a sarcastic aside or two about 19th-century handwriting.

If you’re connected to any of these names or places, or just curious about the stories hidden in everyday lives, I’m glad you’re here.

Let’s get into the stories.

Whispers in the Records

About the Voice Behind the whispers

I’m Liz, a mom of three, a history lover, and someone who believes that even the quietest lives deserve to be remembered.

Whispers Through Time is where I share the stories I’ve uncovered, some forgotten, some half-erased, all deeply human. This isn’t just about family trees. It’s about memory, presence, and giving voice to the ones who didn’t get to write their own stories.
