Hi, I’m Liz, a mom to three wild and wonderful girls, and when I’m not stepping on toys or reheating my coffee for the third time, I’m digging through history to uncover the stories of people who came before us. I spend a lot of time juggling family life and research, often squeezing in late-night sessions with old records while the rest of the house sleeps. It’s a bit chaotic, a bit messy, but there’s something grounding about it, like I’m stitching together the threads of where I come from while raising the next generation. For me, this isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way to connect, to remember, and to carry stories forward that might otherwise be lost.

After hours (and hours) of digging through records, message boards, and long-forgotten corners of the internet, I found myself hoping someone, anyone, had written down the pieces they’d uncovered. Something personal. Something with context. Something that could help connect the dots. I realized how valuable it would be if more people shared their findings, their mistakes, and their stories. So that’s what I decided to do. Not just for myself, but for anyone else trying to make sense of where they come from.

The spotlight of history often falls on kings and queens, celebrities and revolutionaries, the names that history books chose to remember. Their stories are retold, engraved in monuments and taught in classrooms. But history wasn’t built by the famous alone. It was shaped just as much by the hands of ordinary people, farmers, midwives, fishermen, soldiers, mothers, children, who lived quiet but meaningful lives. Lives that meant something, and still deserve to be remembered.

My roots are a tangled, beautiful mix of Mi’kmaq, Acadian, English, and Irish ancestry. Some stories were passed down, others were hidden or forgotten. Some were easy to trace; others fought me every step of the way. But with each record I find, each newspaper clipping or baptismal register, I feel like I’m gently dusting off the memory of someone who deserves to be remembered.

This space is where I share those stories, the quiet, powerful lives of people who weren’t famous, but who helped shape the world all the same. Some posts will be lighthearted (because let’s be honest, some historical records are just weird), and others will carry more weight. I’ll also share lessons I’ve learned along the way, little tips and tricks to help others avoid the dead ends I’ve hit face-first.

I’m not a professional genealogist. I’m just someone who’s obsessed with piecing things together and wants to make it easier for others to do the same. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned researcher, I hope this space gives you something useful, or at least makes you feel a little less alone in the chaos of it all.

Whether you’re knee-deep in your own research or just here for the historical drama (and trust me, there is drama), I’m glad you’re here.
